The initial phase of this project added approximately 300,000 sf of additional shipping, distribution, and warehousing capacity to an existing warehouse facility.
“
The challenge is balancing specific functions… with what it takes to produce a spiritual environment.”
Mathew Chaney, Project Manager, Partner, Ehrlich Architects
The addition dramatically improves the work environment for hundreds of employees, providing access to natural light and ventilation, while also consolidating the company's facilities under one roof and allowing for future growth.
An 800-foot-long raised pedestrian walkway dubbed "Main Street," punctuated by skylights, bamboo gardens, and lounges, connects two new entrance and employee break areas.
A walking track encircles the 52-acre site that has been newly land- and hardscaped, featuring drought-tolerant California native plants and bioswaled parking lots.
The "tilt up" concrete construction technique was an economic and durable strategy for the warehouse's 40-foot-high walls.
Rusted Cor-ten steel, insulated metal panels, and burnished concrete block complete the industrial exterior. Contrasting expanses of translucent "channel glass" allow soft natural light deep into work zones.
