Takashi Yanai Brings 2022 AIA Committee on Design Conference to LA

EYRC Partner and AIA Committee on Design (COD) 2022 Chair Takashi Yanai had the opportunity to host the COD's first conference since 2019 in Los Angeles, CA from October 19-23.

This year's conference mapped and mined "The Art of Habitation" from Venice to Downtown LA, highlighting an array of modern residential design spanning typologies and decades, from pioneering work by Schindler and Neutra to those of contemporaries such as Koning Eizenberg, Brooks Scarpa, Lorcan O'Herlihy and Thom Mayne. Also on the itinerary were larger projects that expand on themes of habitation: houses of worship, affordable apartments and two museums, among others. These included the Renzo Piano-designed Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the closely-followed new LACMA design by Peter Zumthor, which recently marked 50% completion.
